A Pediatric Nursing Story
We are featuring a series of brief nursing stories all week to celebrate the outstanding work of our nurses during National Nurses Week (May 6-12).
The following story is from one of our pediatric nurses:
I cared for a mother who was having a baby not expected to survive past birth. The infant was born alive and we arranged to get them home from the hospital and the infant onto hospice. With the family's permission, I found a local photographer and arranged to have family photos taken at no charge to them.
The family was so grateful to have the opportunity to get family photos done in the comfort of their own home. The photographer was so respectful, thoughtful, and provided the family with a disc of finished photos. The mother sent me one of the photos months after the infant had passed and a note thanking me for everything I had done including the opportunity for them to have pictures to remember their infant.
