We Honor Veterans

Granite VNA’s Hospice Program is a proud We Honor Veterans Partner Provider that serves a growing segment of our patient population – our veterans. As a Partner Provider, our agency recruits and trains Veterans and others who want to support Veterans who are hospice patients.

Get Assistance

We pair Veteran Volunteers with hospice patients who have been identified as Veterans. When Veterans interact, their common language and experiences can build trust and strong relational bonds can form. Veteran Volunteers offer companionship, interaction, comfort, and family member support.

Veteran Volunteers assist veterans in reminiscing and telling life stories, provide respite for caregivers, participate in pinning ceremonies for Veterans Day and other recognition events, and help in replacing lost medals.

A Veteran Volunteer who is also an Air Force Veteran,

shared a story about his visits with a fellow Vietnam Veteran. During their visits, they would swap stories in ways only fellow veterans can do. One day, close to the time of her father’s death, the patient’s daughter, who had been listening at the door, pulled the volunteer aside and tearfully thanked him for all that he had done. She shared that these were stories that she had never heard and that she felt she now knew her father so much better.
