This is an in-demand need for the agency as most patients wish to pass away in their own homes and their caregivers need respite to take care of medical appointments or just to get out of the house to meet a friend.
Companionship for Long-Term Care Facility Patients
Volunteers generally visit patients weekly in long-term care facilities for companionship and socialization. Shifts are flexible and can be made around volunteer availability.
Bereavement Support
Volunteers provide one-on-one support to newly bereaved caregivers in their homes. Additional training is provided for volunteers who are interested in helping co-facilitate one of our bereavement support groups.
Vigil/Bedside Companionship
Volunteers provide companionship and a quiet presence to patients who are anxious or actively dying.
Hairdresser (certification required)
Volunteers provide hair washing, styling, and cutting in patient homes and at Hospice House.
Massage/Reiki
Volunteers provide massage or Reiki to patients in facilities and in their homes.
Certified Music Practitioner (certification required)
Certified Music Practitioners provide therapeutic music to patients and families at Hospice House, in long-term care facilities, and in patient homes. Program is supported in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts & the National Endowment for the Arts.
Expressive Arts
Volunteers work with patients, families, and bereaved individuals to offer alternative avenues to express hopes, dreams, and fears around death and dying. Experience providing expressive arts projects or willingness to research and take an active role in developing these avenues is desired.
Pet Therapy (certification required)
Volunteers must have therapy dog certification from organizations that provide insurance for pets. View our Pet Therapy Video.
